2010 marks NFCT's 10th anniversary and we are proud of how far we've "paddled". The Mission Fund supports are on-going work as we steward and celebrate the 740-mile waterway, and as we share our expertise with communities the Trail winds through to help them build more diverse local and regional economies.
The NFCT mission is to celebrate the rich human heritage and diverse natural environment of the Northern Forest by establishing and stewarding a water trail tracing historic Native American travel routes across New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Delivering on this mission is no small task, and we have organized our efforts into three program areas:
- Waterway Stewardship - taking care of and developing the physical trail.
- Community Economic Development - positioning and promoting our trail in concert with local partners to increase sustainable tourism dollars flowing into the rural communities along our route.
- Recreation, Arts, and Heritage - collaborating with communities to develop meaningful projects that connect people and place; currently our focus in this area is on our youth outdoors program, the Northern Forest Explorers Program.
Give $100 or more and receive an NFCT ceramic mug and packet of organic coffee courtesy of our friends at Green Mountain Coffee®!

Your donation makes an enormous difference in our ability to staff and support the grassroots work that brings our mission to life. Thank you!
