2011 NFCT Internships

Thanks to generous funding from the Davis Conservation Fund, Northern Border Regional Commission, Maine Recreation Trails Program, Department of Justice, and the Adirondack Watershed Alliance we are able to offer the following intern positions:

Applications for all intern positions, linked below, should be e-mailed to intern@NorthernForestCanoeTrail.org by March 11, 2011.  Unless noted otherwise, the season will run from June 13th to August 16th.

The 2010 Roving Stewardship Intern Crew takes a moment to pose for a picture while working on the Gull Pond Stream Trail in Rangeley, Maine.

Roving Stewardship Interns will complete trail work along the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, living in a tent, and with other interns, staff, and volunteers. There will be opportunities for project coordination as well as hands-on field work ranging from sign installation, to stream bank stabilization, to stone staircase construction.  To see examples of last years projects see our 2010 Field Season page.  APPLY.

The GIS Stewardship Intern (GSI) season will run from June 6th to August 19th.  The GSI will be responsible for gathering and field verifying spatial NFCT infrastructure location information across the entire trail.  The GIS Stewardship Intern will also be responsible for constructing and installing up to 23 sign-in boxes across the trail.  APPLY.

The Allagash Stewardship Interns (ASIs) will be on a two person field crew.  ASIs will train with the Roving Stewardship Interns for the first two weeks of the season and will spend the next seven weeks in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Maine performing stewardship activities.  APPLY.

The Program Intern will assist NFCT staff with the wide variety of activities associated with grant initiatives in the busy Vermont office. The Program Interns responsibilities include, and are not limited to, working with mapping software, communicating with NFCT membership and volunteers, developing the NFCT website, and outreach. The Northern Forest Explorer Program lands at Sandy Beach on Attean Pond.

The Youth Program Interns will help coordinate and lead NFCT's Northern Forest Explorers Youth Program. The Youth Program Interns will be working with children age 10-14 in a program developed to connect rural youth with their backyard waterways. Acess Frequently Asked Questions or APPLY.

Candidates need to be at least 18 years old at the time of the internship.  Stewardship Interns are required to have a minimum of Wilderness First Aid Certification.  If you do not have a current certification we can help you find a location offering the training before the season begins.
