Missisquoi Abenaki Culture Day & Canoe Lessons

June 26, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

Canoe Lessons & Abenaki River History

Davis Park, Richford, VT

Thanks to a UMATR River Communities Grant, the Town of Richford will be hosting canoe lessons for up to twelve participants at 9am-12:30pm at Davis Park.  Lunch will be provided. These lessons are for adults and for families. Boats, paddles and PFDs will be provided for those who do not have their own. PFDs must be worn whenever in canoes for insurance purposes.  Rain date is July 10th.

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun and learning with the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi, including a Blessing Ceremony, Drumming, and outings in the Voyager Canoe! There will also be hand crafts and shirts for sale to benefit the Tribal Food Shelf.  Learn more here.

This event is paired with a larger afternoon event that involves the Missisquoi Abenaki band with a presentation about the river on culture and history, story-telling, drumming, artisans and more.

This is a free event but registration is required.

If you have any questions about canoeing event, please contact Charen Fegard at  [email protected]dvt.org.
