ParticipantHey Dave,
I can’t tell you what you might encounter the 3rd week of June, but anytime there is rain the water can rise and be an issue. As far as specifics, any of the rapids on the Saranac River can pop up quickly. Last spring I was paddling with someone and as we approached the rapids with portage river right, he started left around a rock and ended up havining a hard time getting back to shore. When I came up on him, he was holding some branches trying to reach shore? Best advice, when approaching rapids stay close to shore and approach slowly. There may or may not be a noticeable sign. That being said, on the south branch of the dead river, I took an exit too soon and ended up bushwhacking through some thick **** because I was too concerned about the rapid. You can always pull off and scout ahead. How long do you plan to take ?

ParticipantHi this is Mack. I solo paddled in 2015 with a 17’ wilderness and know the trail pretty well. When are you planning to depart in 2018?

ParticipantHi Erik,
My solo trip earlier this year tied Skip Ciccarelli at 25 days, but your wife and friend beat that time. I’m looking to do the trip again in 2016, probably slower than faster.

ParticipantIn 2015 I tried to bypass spencer stream via the logging roads that appeared on my Garmin. Don’t trust your Garmin….the trail was overgrown and in sping water levels, it was knee deep water. I do not recommend trying to bypass? read my journal notes at trailjournals.com/Mack2015NFCT @erikpieh 170 wrote:
I am leaving in a week for a thru paddle, and going up Spencer Stream looks difficult. Are there logging roads that I can use my canoe cart on to make this section easier? What is the route?
I’ve heard that upstream travel on the water is difficult due to rapids, and that the dam is hard to portage around.

ParticipantJust finished my through paddle trip from May 20, to June 13, 2015. Katina’s companion guide is a MUST have resource to have with you.

ParticipantNicole, I’m looking for a place in Fort Kent to Park my Subaru for a month, and a ride from Fort Kent to Edmundston Greyhound bus station. No boat or gear to the bus station, just myself. I’m flexible on the date, but looking to arrive in Fort Kent between May 15th – 20th. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Below is my email address.
Thanks
