Lakeside Park located in the heart of Rangeley, Maine provides access to City Cove in the northeast quadrant of Rangeley Lake. The park boasts accessible infrastructure improvements making it possible to use for many people requiring such features (see specific description of features below). It is possible to access any part of Rangeley Lake from here, but the lake is big and staying close to shore is recommended in case wind and waves kick up making conditions dangerous.
Consider a trip to Hunter Cove west of City Cove on the north side of the lake. The mouth of the cove is about 3.25 miles from Lakeside Park boat launch. Paddling across the north shore of the lake affords southern and westward views and allows you to take in the grandeur of the region from the water. Hunter cove is a protected narrow inlet surrounded by undeveloped land beyond the Mingo Springs Road bridge that crosses the cove about .5 miles from the mouth. The cove is about 1.5 miles long from mouth to its deepest point making a trip in and out a 3 mile venture. Add it all together and the trip out and back totals 6.5 miles.
If you are looking for a shorter venture or the wind is creating challenging conditions in the open lake, explore City Cove located to the west of the boat launch. This cove offers a 1-2 mile paddle from the Lakeside Park boat launch. The western shoreline is undeveloped and protected from prevailing winds from the west.
