This is the final section of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. This 28.5-mile long segment travels along the St. John River as it forms the US and Canada border, starting in Allagash Village and traveling to Fort Kent. In this area, the St. John is a wide river with steep banks that rise up to rural agricultural land and homes. On this portion of the river, there are a handful of Class II rapids and no portages. Ideally this trip should be planned before the end of June. Water in this section of the river can run low in the month’s following.
