Whether they were installing a new campsite, or leading a volunteer effort to build stone staircases on a portage, our stewardship team made the trail a safe and inspiring adventure for all.

2018 Stewardship Interns

Sam Righi, Field Coordinator

Sam Righi

Sam is excited to be joining up with NFCT as the Stewardship Crew Leader for the 2018 season. Born in upstate New York and raised in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio, Sam is an avid hiker, creek stomper, hobbyfarmer, and woods lover. In 2016, Sam took a break from his study of anthropology and botany at college to work in Idaho with the Student Conservation Association. There, he joined 24 enthusiastic peers exploring the mountains, working on trails and other conservation projects. After finishing school in 2017, Sam interned in Washington with the North Cascades National Park fire crew as a fire effects monitor and wildland firefighter and did a stint in Catoctin Mountain Park, Maryland on an SCA trail crew. Sam is looking forward to exploring the Northern Forest by foot and by boat and learning the names of the critters, plants, and people that call it home.

Lauren Kelm

Lauren Kelm, NFCT Intern

Lauren was raised in Wisconsin, but now calls Marquette, Michigan her home. She is a junior at Northern Michigan University studying ecology. One day, she hopes to work in the field of conservation management or outdoor recreational work. Lauren enjoys hiking, camping, hammocking, reading, knitting, and listening to folk music. Having spent some years canoeing and kayaking around the Midwest, she is excited to explore the NFCT as she works to make it more accessible.

Christin Cohee

Christin is from Baltimore, MD and studies Wildlife Ecology and Management at the University of Maryland, College Park. In her free time, she can be found playing ultimate frisbee or hiking in the Maryland area. Christin spent last summer working in Yellowstone National Park and is passionate about protecting our public lands and waterways. She has previously interned with the AnacostiaWatershed Society, working on river restoration projects around Washington DC. Christin is excited to further develop her paddling and stewardship skills with NFCT while getting to experience a new area of the country.
