Allagash Wilderness Waterway Lakes

From 2023-2025, NFCT worked with Teens to Trails to create a series of itineraries for the Maine sections of the canoe trail. The detailed itinerary linked to below is designed to support youth groups, but is great information for all paddlers. Thank you Teens to Trails!

Starting at the southern end of Chamberlain Lake and paddling to Churchill Dam, this 31.5 to 43.5 mile section is a part of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway that travels primarily through lakes. These lakes provide great opportunities for swimming, fishing and exploring. The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a federally  recognized and state administered Wild and Scenic River known for its beautiful scenery and wonderful campsites. Along the way, groups have the opportunity to see wildlife, views of Katahdin, and historic tramway cars from the logging era. This trip has one portage of 0.1 miles.
