Androscoggin River: Bofinger Conservation Area to Berlin

Paddling between the Bofinger Conservation area and Berlin is a relaxing 11.7 mile, quick-water trip. Surrounded by farms, this is an open paddling experience. While the river has good current, it is never anything a beginner couldn’t handle. Several access points provide flexibility with trip planning. Keep your eyes open for the Boom Piers – small islands built in the middle of the river to separate lumber during logging drives. From the 1890’s to the 1950’s, chains connected these islands to separate lumber heading to different mills in Berlin.
