North Maine Woods & Allagash Wilderness Waterway Camping Fees

North Maine Woods North Maine Woods, Inc. manages public access to private roads and forest lands north of Moosehead Lake. Land use fees are charged at staffed checkpoints. More information and a fee schedule is posted at https://www.northmainewoods.org/  North Maine Woods Campsites have a fee. Permits can be obtained through North Maine Woods at checkpoints (checks or cash only) or by e-mailing your draft itinerary of overnight camping locations, along with expected dates, to [email protected] will receive a response indicating the total fees which you may pay by telephone, plus receive an email message indicating you are registered for all overnight locations.

Penobscot River Corridor (PRC) and Allagash Wilderness Waterway (AWW) campsites, including along the West Branch, Seboomook Lake, Chesuncook Lake, Chamberlin Lake, Eagle Lake, Churchill Lake, and the Allagash River, are first come first serve, have a fee, and require a permit through the Bureau of Public Land. Permits can be obtained by: 1) driving through a North Maine Woods checkpoint; 2) registering with a ranger upon arrival in the PRC or AWW; 3) registering at the self- registration stations (PRC campsites only); 4) e-mailing your itinerary of overnight camping locations, along with expected dates, to [email protected]. You will receive a response indicating the total fees which you may pay by telephone, plus receive an email message indicating you are registered for all overnight locations. If paddling into the AWW, the first Ranger Station you encounter will be at Churchill Dam. You can pay for your AWW sites there. Bring cash or check. No credit cards accepted.
