‘Round the Mountain: Lower Saranac Lake to Lake Flower

The ‘Round the Mountain loop is a 10-mile journey that takes paddlers from Ampersand Bay on Lower Saranac Lake to Lake Flower in downtown Saranac Lake. This trip is suitable for all skill levels.

Start at Ampersand Bay from the NYS DEC boat launch or the beach at Ampersand Bay Resort. Paddle south toward Eagle Island, hugging the eastern shore to the entrance to First Pond, across from Bluff Island, about 3 miles. Follow the channel to Second Pond past the NYS DEC boat launch, then continue along the Saranac River to the Lower Locks, about 3.5 miles. Continue through the lock or portage around.

From the Lower Locks, paddle across Lake Oseetah, through another channel, to Lake Flower. Take out at the NYS DEC boat launch in the Village of Saranac Lake.
