WAITSFIELD, Vt. – Ben Malakoff of Alexandria is spending 10 weeks this summer as a Program Intern for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Inc. in Waitsfield , Vt.
Malakoff is a sophomore Integrated Marketing and Communication major at Ithaca College in New York , and has been a member of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) since learning about the organization during his senior year at T.C. Williams High School .
The avid canoeist has paddled on the St. Croix River in Maine , the Potomac River, and two New York sections of the 740-mile NFCT. Malakoff’s responsibilities as an intern will range from creating Web 2.0 applications for the NFCT Web site, to compiling demographic information for the 45 cities and towns that the trail passes through in New York, Vermont, Quebec, Canada; New Hampshire and Maine.
“The NFCT is unique because of its mission of serving both the environment and the communities that are along the trail,” said Malakoff. “I think that’s a really good thing.”
Malakoff is the son of David Malakoff and Amy Young.
