Annual Auction for Canoe Trail Underway

Waitsfield, Vt. The 7th Annual Online Auction of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) is underway with many nationally known companies joining with local businesses in supporting the organization. The Trail is the longest inland recreational water trail in the United States, and its use and popularity has grown since its creation in 2006. Paddling.net, a clearinghouse of information about paddling and the places and people that support this growing sport, is once again the lead sponsor of the auction.

Leaders in the multi-billion dollar outdoor products industry such as Kokatat, maker of paddling clothes and gear, and SurfTech, an innovator in surfboards and paddleboards, are helping to support the organization with product donations to the auction. Well-known outdoor industry leaders also supporting the cause include Jackson Kayak, Eureka, Wenonah Canoe, NRS, Bending Branches and SealLine among many others. All proceeds raised from the auction will support the mission of NFCT and its three programs: Waterway Stewardship, Economic Development, and Connecting People & Place.

Old Town Canoe and Malone Auto Racks, both of Maine, are two well-known local companies supporting this effort. Kate Williams, Executive Director of Northern Forest Canoe Trail, says that these companies are critical partners in support of the Trail, helping to shine a spotlight on local, trailside businesses that are at the heart of what makes recreation along the NFCT route not only viable but world class. "Our vision for the Trail is that it help anchor more vibrant and sustainable communities and businesses along our route. Seeing the auction participation of so many local inns, bed & breakfasts, and outfitters is wonderful."

From kayak instruction in the Adirondacks, to sled dogs and rafting in northern New Hampshire, to a day of paddling on the Clyde River in Vermont, these are just a few of the local flavors the auction offers. "Our partnership with Paddling.net means that we are reaching beyond the region to attract visitors to the Trail. In doing so we hope to create a connection for visitors that keeps them coming back to support the businesses that are found in places like Old Forge, New York, West Charleston, Vermont, Stratton, Maine or Milan, New Hampshire."
