Dansville, NY Resident Interning with Northern Forest Canoe Trail

WAITSFIELD, Vt. – Nick Olson of Dansville, New York is spending the summer as a Trail Assessment Pilot Program Intern for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Inc. based in Waitsfield , Vt.

 

Olson is a senior at SUNY Cortland majoring in Outdoor Recreation. He has guided rafting trips on the Hudson River, and is looking forward to his final college semester with a National Outdoor Leadership School program in Brazil ‘s Amazon rainforest.

 

During his 14 weeks as an intern, Olson will plan, organize and participate in a pilot Universal Trail Assessment Process (UTAP) project on the Missiquoi River in northern Vermont . The project will document the actual conditions of one section of the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail in order to create assessment maps and identify ways to improve the trail user’s experience.

"The NFCT is a fantastic organization creating a unique recreation resource," said Olson, who would like to work for the National Park Service after college.

 

Olson is the son of Barbara and Rick Olson of Dansville.
