WAITSFIELD, VERMONT-Millions of people will look for destinations closer to home for summer recreation this year. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is making it easier than ever for kayakers and canoeists from Washington DC to Québec to charter a new course for exploration in their own region. Delve into the history and river culture of New England, with the release of the official guidebook for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) links the waterways of New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire, and Maine, and offers a variety of outdoor recreation options. The route’s variety of flat water, swift water, and whitewater-expanding across a range of rivers, streams, lakes and ponds-provides extensive opportunities for canoe, kayak and camping recreation. Vibrant communities along the way offer inns, Bed & Breakfasts, and museums, as well as other recreational and historical attractions. This guidebook goes beyond route information to serve as a narrative of the natural, human, and cultural legacy of the region and its wonderful accessibility to visitors.

The official guide to one of the country’s most alluring water treasures coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740 mile inland paddling trail tracing historic travel routes across New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire, and Maine The non-profit organization has a mission to connect people to the Trail’s natural environment, human heritage, and contemporary communities by stewarding, promoting, and providing access to canoe and kayak experiences along this route.
