Jeff McCabe Joins Staff at Northern Forest Canoe Trail

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) is pleased to announce that Jeff McCabe of Skowhegan, Maine was hired as the nonprofit’s Maine Outreach Coordinator. He will work part-time focusing on canoe and kayak-related events as well as being NFCT’s representative to the High Peaks Initiative, Maine Outdoor Coalition, and Maine Woods Discovery.Jeff McCabe

McCabe’s enthusiasm for introducing people to outdoor recreation combined with his experience as a registered Maine guide and recent director of the Lake George Regional Park make him an ideal fit for this new position.

“We were looking for a Maine-based coordinator to help us work more closely and effectively with the people and communities along the trail,” said Karrie Thomas, executive director of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. “I’m thrilled to have Jeff’s experience and passion on board.”

About 350 miles of the 740-mile water trail flows along the northern border of Maine, and NFCT depends on volunteer support to maintain campsites and trail markers. For five years, McCabe has been a volunteer trail maintainer caring for an 18-mile section near Jackman that includes Attean and Whipple ponds, the connecting Moose River and a road portage.

“I first heard about NFCT in a magazine article as I was finishing college. I became active with them around the time of their 10th anniversary,” said McCabe. “I’m excited to be part of this important step of having staff in Maine. This position will help grow partnerships and collaboration along the trail.”

McCabe is also a member of the Maine House of Representatives and is currently the Majority Leader. He can be reached regarding the Northern Forest Canoe Trail at jeff@northernforestcanoetrail.org
