Northern Forest Canoe Trail Annual Auction Underway

Waitsfield, Vt.  The 8th Annual Online Auction of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) launches today. The annual fundraiser supports the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, the longest paddling trail in the nation which runs from Old Forge, New York through Vermont, Québec, and New Hampshire to Fort Kent, Maine.  Place your bid today to support the Trail that was named “Best Canoe Trail” in 2011 and “Best East Coast Adventure” in 2012 by Outside Magazine.   The Trail is managed by the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Inc. a non-profit that stewards the Trail and promotes regional tourism and active outdoor communities.

Leaders in the outdoor products industry such as Kokatat, makers of paddling clothes and gear, and Exped, an innovator in camping gear and outerwear, are supporting the organization with donations of product to the auction.  Other well-known and regarded industry leaders supporting the cause include Bending Branches, Eureka, Gregory, Ibex, Northwest River Supply (NRS), and Teva among many others.

Old Town Canoe, Wenonah Canoe and Hornbeck Boats, makers of some of the most popular canoes seen plying the waters of the Trail, have donated boats to the fundraiser.  Kate Williams, Executive Director of Northern Forest Canoe Trail, says that these companies are critical partners in support of the Trail.  “Our online auction showcases the partnership between outdoor industry leaders and the Trail.  This partnership helps make public access to recreation a reality.”

Guided trips from the Adirondacks and Allagash are auction offerings, as well as a sled dog adventure in Vermont and rafting and skiing in New Hampshire.  “Our partnership with Paddling.net is critical to our ability to reach paddlers and other outdoor enthusiasts who are eager to know what the Northern Forest Region and the Trail have to offer,” says Williams.  “The more connections we make for people around the nation to places like Old Forge, New York; Richford, Vermont; Errol, New Hampshire; and Stratton, Maine, the stronger the Trail and those communities will be.”
