Northern Forest Canoe Trail at SoHo Film Fest and Paddlesport 2013

WAITSFIELD, Vt.Reel Paddling Film Festival 2013The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) kicks off its series of Rapid Media’s Reel Paddling Film Festival World Tour 2013 in New York City with partner Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) on March 22 at REI’s Lafayette Street location. The film festival showcases the best paddling films from around the world. Proceeds from the event support the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. This showing is the first of nine screenings of the film festival that NFCT is hosting throughout New York and New England.

This year, Lincoln Canoe & Kayak, maker of handcrafted canoes and kayaks in Freeport, Maine and a famous boat builder in New England, is partnering with NFCT to raffle a light-weight and versatile 2013 Chebeague kayak to be priLincoln Canoe & Kayakzed at the conclusion of this series of nine screenings. All attendees at the show in SoHo will have an opportunity to enter a free raffle to win the boat. Also at SoHo, Green Mountain Energy will be attending as an event sponsor, and will have information available about renewable energy options for NYC residents.

The Reel Paddling Film Festival is in its seventh year and features award winning films in 10 categories. The festival inspires people to explore rivers, lakes and oceans, push physical and emotional extremes, embrace the lifestyle and appreciate the heritage of wild places.

This screening also coincides with the East Coast’s largest paddlesports show March 22-24 at the Garden State Convention Center in Somerset, New Paddlesport 2013Jersey. Paddlesport 2013 is home to more than 100 exhibitors where consumers can purchase paddling gear and attend seminars on paddling, paddlesports and travel. Mark Fromm, who paddled the length of the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail in 2012, will be giving a spirited presentation on his adventure at the show.

The March 22 screening starts at 6:00 pm at REI in SoHo. Tickets for this event can only be purchased online in advance at http://bit.ly/WhrP6e (donations will be accepted at the door for those who were not able to purchase tickets in advance). REI is also offering a 20% discount on all store purchases at the conclusion of the films until closing at 9:00 pm.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is the longest paddling trail in the nation and runs from Old Forge, New York through Vermont, Québec, and New Hampshire to Fort Kent, Maine. In 2011 the Trail was named “Best Canoe Trail” by Outside Magazine and in 2012 the magazine named the Trail a “Best East Coast Adventure.”
