Trail Signs to be Dedicated in Coos County

WAITSFIELD, Vt. – Dedications in Colebrook and Stark on May 18 will unveil new trail kiosks for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.  These dedications are the result of a successful collaboration between officials from local communities, the interested public and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) organization.

The dedication in Stark takes place on May 18 from 11:00 am-12:00 pm at the Stark Village Heritage Center and in Colebrook at the Colebrook Bridge St. access (near the Colebrook Business Corp.) from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm.  These kiosks include wonderful images of the area, a celebration of the region’s cultural and natural history and information to guide paddlers along this internationally known water trail that stretches from Old Forge, New York to Fort Kent, Maine.

Thanks to a grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission, NFCT was able to coordinate with local officials and the public to design 19 different interpretive panels that will be located along the Trail.  The interpretive panels focus on each location’s unique history and characteristics, including a map showing that spot’s location along the NFCT.  Text and images were developed by local committees.
