The Androscoggin winds past Bethel, a small mountain town, on this 10.3 mile stretch. The waters remain calm, with only a few rips that even beginner paddlers can handle. The current is modest, allowing you to relax and take in the impressive mountains, abundant waterfowl, and eagles soaring above. While paddling from Newt’s Landing to Moran’s Landing will be a pleasant day paddle, you can shorten your trip by stopping (or starting) at Bethel Outdoor Adventure or Davis Park. Keep in mind that many smaller side channels will be too shallow to run some of the time.
Those carrying on the Moran’s Landing will have to navigate some Class I-II rapids that extend to the take-out point and beyond. The middle and right of this rapid have choppy waves, but since the access point is on the left, it is best to take a line on the left of the rapid anyway.
