Paddlers to Converge May 14 for ‘Round the Mountain Race

The ‘Round the Mountain Canoe & Kayak is set for Saturday, May 14.

The annual event takes paddlers on a 10.5 mile course starting at Ampersand Bay Resort, across Lower Saranac Lake, through Second Pond and Oseetah Lake, and ending at Riverfront Park on Lake Flower, adjacent to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation boat launch.

“This is the unofficial kick off to the Adirondack racing season,” said Karrie Thomas, executive director of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT), which now administers the event after taking it over from Brian and Grace McDonnell in 2021. “We’re excited to bring the paddling community back together after a long, cold winter.”

Race classes offer something for all paddle craft and skill levels. Entry fee is $30 per person, with NFCT members receiving a 15% discount. All proceeds from the event benefit NFCT stewardship work.
