Film Festival Arrives in Wiscasset

WAITSFIELD, Vt. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) is co-hosting Rapid Media’s Reel Paddling Chewonki logoFilm Festival World Tour 2013 on Friday, April 5 with The Chewonki Foundation on their campus in Wiscasset, Maine. The film festival showcases the best paddling films from around the world. Proceeds from this event will support the Northern Forest Canoe Trail and Chewonki. This showing is one of nine screenings of the film festival that NFCT is hosting throughout New York and New England.

This year, Lincoln Canoe & Kayak, maker of handcrafted Lincoln Canoe & Kayakcanoes and kayaks in Freeport, Maine and a famous boat builder in New England, is partnering with NFCT to raffle a light-weight and versatile 2013 Chebeague kayak to be prized at the conclusion of this series of nine screenings. All attendees at the show will have an opportunity to enter a free raffle to win the boat.

Reel Paddling Film Festival 2013The Reel Paddling Film Festival is in its eighth year and features award winning films in 10 categories. The festival inspires people to explore rivers, lakes and oceans, push physical and emotional extremes, embrace the lifestyle and appreciate the heritage of wild places.

The film festival takes place April 5 on the Chewonki campus, located at 485 Chewonki Neck Road, Wiscasset, Maine, approximately one hour north of Portland. Doors open for the April 5 screening at 6:00 pm with a cash bar and appetizers, and the film festival begins at 7:00 pm. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is the longest paddling trail in the nation and runs from Old Forge, New York through Vermont, Québec, and New Hampshire to Fort Kent, Maine. In 2011 the Trail was named “Best Canoe Trail” by Outside Magazine and in 2012 the magazine named the Trail a “Best East Coast Adventure.”
