WAITSFIELD, VT (January 2009) — The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) thanks its donor, bidders, and sponsors for helping us to have our most successful auction to date. The auction netted more than $20,000, thanks to the nearly 300 active bidders and the excellent catalog of more than 300 items.

NFCT is grateful to Paddling.net who was the lead auction sponsor. They promoted the NFCT auction on their website and in their newsletter.  With 200,000 unique visitors to their site each month, and weekly newsletters to 78,000 subscribers, Paddling.net brought significant visibility to this fundraising event.

Auction items ranged from boats to books to paddling gear to exceptional experiences.  Items in all categories performed very well, with all categories attaining well more than 50% of value in final bids.

All auction proceeds are going directly to the Trail’s 2009 mission programs, which include Trail Development and Waterway Stewardship, Sustainable Tourism Development, and Recreation and Heritage. In summer 2008, NFCT launched a new youth paddling program to connect rural youth with their backyard waterways, and auction support will support expansion of this important program in 2009.

The auction represents an opportunity for bidders to support NFCT’s programs while choosing from an unparalleled gathering of items – canoes, kayaks, lodging, paddling gear, priceless experiences, books, gifts, and much more. A range of NFCT contributors donate these items as a way to support the organization’s mission.
