The Mahoosucs section of the Androscoggin River Trail begins at the Maine border in Gilead. It is a mix of flatwater and quickwater through the towns of Gilead, Bethel, and provides fine mountain views. Through paddlers will need to portage Rumford Falls, the largest falls east of Niagara. Below Rumford, the river runs through a forested valley, with good current and the occasional dam to portage.
Then Androscoggin River Trail is managed by the Androscoggin Watershed Council. More information about this section, go to Androscoggin River Trail (Mahoosucs).
