Saranac Lake, NY

The heart of the Tri-Lakes region in the Adirondacks, Saranac Lake is an outdoor recreation hub — and quite literally celebrates paddling. From playing host to the ‘Round the Mountain Canoe & Kayak Race and welcoming 90-Miler finishers after the final leg of their journey, to hosting Celebrate Paddling ADK — a month-long festival featuring lectures, historical discussions, river cleanups, races, guided trips and other paddling activities on local waterways — Saranac Lake embraces paddlesports as part of its identity.

This community is a popular stop for Northern Forest Canoe Trail thru-paddlers, who can stock up on gear and supplies at two local outfitters located right on the trail: Adirondack Lakes & Trails Outfitters and St. Regis Canoe Outfitters, both long time supporters of the NFCT. There are also ample lodging opportunities, private and public campgrounds, restaurants, grocery stores and other shops.
